Welcome Justine!

Please join us in welcoming our new Administrative Director, Justine Sullivan!

Justine Sullivan is a classically trained orchestral oboist and an Orff-Schulwerk certified music educator, as well as an active member of the jazz and traditional/folk music communities. After teaching classroom music in public schools for 10 years, she branched into non-profit leadership for multiple music education and advocacy organizations, including the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. She has a strong foundation in both recorder performance and pedagogy, from training and teaching with the recorder to playing recreationally and professionally in a variety of settings. She believes music and the arts strengthen communities and is eager to bring her performance and music education background, combined with her administrative experience, to support and expand the American Recorder Society.

Currently in Denver, CO, Justine spends her time playing formally and informally in orchestral, chamber, and folk music gatherings around town, teaching music, and serving for organizations that support music education and community access to the arts. She finds beauty and purpose in how music enriches normal, everyday moments—making music with friends, playing at the local bar, the festival in the park, a friend's wedding, and for fun at home. These shared, communal musical moments—making something beautiful with the people who share your life—motivate her to teach, advocate, and serve music organizations. At home, she is having the time of her life raising her son and daughter, and trying - with mixed results - to start a family band.
