President's Appeal

Supporting the American Recorder Society

Dear Members and Friends,

Samuel Sidhom wanted to give back to his Memphis community by starting Music Makers Recorder Club for Senior Citizens at the University of Memphis, but he needed financial help to begin. Thanks to your generous support, we were able to provide the startup funds. Music Makers now eagerly meets every week providing free lessons to all who attend. One member of Music Makers, Mr. Bobby Rice, had to use a walker for better mobility. He shared with Samuel, “I don’t really like to leave my house, but I would never miss this class.” Music Makers gave not only Mr. Rice, but all of its members, the ability to make music. Unfortunately, Bobby Rice has since passed away, but at his memorial, in a place of honor beside his casket, stood his recorder.

Your generous contribution to the ARS helped make Bobby’s life sweeter. Won’t you contribute again this year, and donate generously to help us support your recorder community? There are so many projects we want to support. This year we:

  • awarded scholarships and outreach grants to promising recorder programs and players,
  • introduced ARS Nova, an eMagazine providing recorder resources,
  • published the American Recorder magazine,
  • provided free recorder music through the Members Library editions,
  • maintained our fabulous Facebook group and website, americanrecorder.org,
  • introduced the Traveling Teacher Program to bring recorder expertise to underserved areas.

What can you do? Please consider making a generous tax-deductible contribution to the American Recorder Society.  You may Click Here to make a donation on-line, or Click Here to download the Donation Form to mail with a check.

On behalf of all who love the recorder, thank you!

Sincerely,

David Podeschi, President
