Scholarship Resources

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who can apply?
Anyone who would like to attend a workshop and could use some financial assistance is eligible to apply. You need not provide proof of financial need. ARS scholarships are available to players of all ages and ability levels--recent scholarship recipients range in age from 12 to 65. Applicants should show a serious interest in the recorder and enjoy sharing their love of the instrument with others.

Must I be a member of ARS?
No, but scholarship recipients are encouraged to join ARS as a result of receiving assistance.

Where can I use my scholarship?
Scholarships are generally awarded for attendance at a week-long workshop (for example, Amherst Early Music Festival or San Francisco Early Music Festival), but application may be made for a weekend workshop scholarship.

May I apply again is I have received an ARS scholarship in the past?
Other factors being equal, if the number of qualified applicants is large, priority will be given to those who have not received previous ARS scholarships.

How much assistance is available?
Summer scholarships are issued in amounts ranging from $150 to $300. Weekend scholarships are for $125 or less.

What are the application deadlines?
Applications for weekend scholarships are accepted up to two months before the event. Applications for summer workshops are due April 15.

Is there a deadline for using the scholarship?
Any ARS scholarship must be used within the ARS fiscal year for which it was awarded (before the next Aug. 31).
