A
Letter from Our Past President
The ARS President's
Appeal, Autumn 2008
Dear ARS Members,
Thank you for supporting the American Recorder
Society. Even if you haven’t sent a donation
recently, you support the ARS by being a member
and you are greatly appreciated. Now I ask you to
take a look at all the good reasons to send a
generous donation.
1.
It’s your society!
You want excellent service and you know that
membership fees alone don’t cover our services. We
keep our membership fees low so lower-income
recorder players can join ARS, but we depend on
your generosity to balance the books and provide
more and better services.
2.
You love the magazine and website!
Our recent survey showed that you think American
Recorder is one of the top benefits of
membership. Our website is fast becoming the
go-to recorder site for people around the
world. But rising costs and falling advertising
revenue endanger the American Recorder and keeping
a website fresh and up-to-date takes money.
3.
You love to play with other recorder players!
The ARS is the primary source of information for
current and future recorder players in this
country. Your membership dues help us to reach
those people of all ages in the U.S. and overseas
and to keep the community of recorder players
growing.
4.
You love to learn with other recorder players!
The American Recorder Society is presenting its
second festival in 2009, right in time for the 70th
anniversary of our founding. We’ll have a
wonderful slate of classes, concerts, vendors,
playing sessions, and times to meet recorder
players from all over the world. And don’t forget
the scholarships and grants we give to players of
all ages and abilities as well as our fund for
professionals. Some day those players and
teachers may help you.
5.
You want to make the world a better place!
Yes, it sounds corny, but I believe that bringing
more people to the recorder and its music will
make them happier. That has got to result in a
better world.
Many of us spent time watching the Olympics this
summer. The looks of concentration on the
athletes’ faces backed up by years of preparation
were inspiring. We are working toward our own
gold medal – one awarded for excellence in service
and offerings. But like those Olympic athletes,
we can’t do it on our own. We need your help!
Please give as generously as you can, knowing that
you are giving to yourself and all your fellow
recorder lovers, present and future.
With heartfelt thanks
Letitia Berlin, Past President
American Recorder Society
